# Coupons and Deals

> Discount codes, volume pricing, buy-more-get-more quantity deals and bundle offers, and how they interact.

SellAuth has four ways to discount an order, and they solve different problems.

| Feature | Triggered by | Typical use |
| - | - | - |
| **Coupons** | A code the buyer enters | Campaigns, partner codes, goodwill |
| **Volume discounts** | Buying enough of one variant | Bulk pricing |
| **Quantity deals** | Buying a set number of items | Buy 2 get 1 free |
| **Bundle offers** | Having specific products in the cart | Selling a combination |

## Coupons

Created under [**Coupons**](https://dash.sellauth.com/coupons). Buyers enter the code at checkout, which requires **Show Coupon Code Textbox** to be on in your [checkout settings](/guides/checkout#checkout). Your plan sets how many coupons you can have.

**Code** is what buyers type. **Type** is either a percentage off or a fixed amount off, and **Discount** is the value. For fixed amounts, the currency follows the product.

### Limiting who can use it, and when

| Setting | Effect |
| - | - |
| Start date | When the code becomes valid. Empty means immediately |
| End date | When it stops working. Empty means never |
| Use limit | Total redemptions allowed across all buyers |
| Per-customer limit | Redemptions allowed per buyer |
| Minimum order value | Order total the code requires |
| Email allowlist | Comma-separated addresses that may use it. Empty allows everyone |

**Count Uses** decides when a redemption is counted against those limits:

* **When Order Paid** counts only completed orders
* **When Checkout Starts** counts as soon as the code is applied

Counting at checkout stops a strictly limited code from being claimed more times than intended while payments are still pending. Counting on payment is more forgiving, because abandoned checkouts do not consume uses.

### Scope

By default a coupon applies to everything. Turn off **Apply to All Products** and pick specific products or variants instead.

**Payment methods** limits the coupon to selected methods, and leaving it empty allows all of them. Restricting a code to the methods that cost you least reduces what the discount costs to run.

## Volume discounts

Set per variant, inside the product. Each tier is a quantity and a percentage, so tiers of 10 units at 5% and 50 units at 10% reward larger orders.

**Disable Volume Discounts when a Coupon is applied** stops the two stacking. Turn it on if your margins cannot absorb both at once.

## Quantity deals

Created under [**Quantity Deals**](https://dash.sellauth.com/quantity-deals). These are buy-more-get-more offers on one product or variant.

| Setting | Meaning |
| - | - |
| Buy quantity | How many items must be in the cart to trigger the deal |
| Discounted quantity | How many of those items get the discount |
| Percentage | The discount applied to those items. 100% makes them free |
| Max uses per cart | How many times the deal can apply in one cart |
| Priority | Higher priority deals are applied first |

Buy 3, discount 1, at 100% is a classic buy two get one free. Buy 2, discount 1, at 50% is a softer version of the same idea.

Start and end dates work as they do on coupons, and leaving both empty runs the deal indefinitely.

## Bundle offers

Created under [**Bundle Offers**](https://dash.sellauth.com/bundle-offers). A bundle triggers when the cart contains a specific combination of products, each with a required quantity.

Set the products and quantities that must be present, then a discount as either a percentage or a fixed amount off the bundle total. **Max uses per cart** and **Priority** work as they do for quantity deals.

Bundles are the tool for pushing a specific combination, as opposed to discounting each product separately and leaving the combination to chance.

## How they interact

Priority decides the order in which quantity deals and bundle offers are evaluated, so set it deliberately when a cart could qualify for more than one.

The interaction that needs configuring is coupons against volume discounts, which stack unless you disable it on the variant. Before running a campaign, build a realistic cart on your own storefront and check that the total comes out where you expect.
