# Stripe

> Connect Stripe to accept cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and local European payment methods on your SellAuth store.

Stripe covers the widest range of payment types of any processor SellAuth supports. A single connection can take credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Klarna, Cash App, Revolut, MobilePay, and European methods including iDEAL, Bancontact, BLIK, TWINT, giropay, EPS, Multibanco and Przelewy24. Which of them appear depends on what you have enabled in your Stripe dashboard and where the buyer is.

Payments settle into your own Stripe account on Stripe's payout schedule.

## Connect your account

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create a restricted key">
    Open the [API Keys](https://dashboard.stripe.com/apikeys) page in Stripe and click **Create a Restricted Key**. Give it a name and a URL.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the restricted key">
    It starts with `rk_live`. Paste it into **API Key** on the SellAuth payment method page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the publishable key">
    It starts with `pk_live` and is on the same Stripe page. Paste it into **Publishable Key**. Optional overall, but required if you want the embedded form.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    The method is now live at checkout.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Use a restricted key rather than your secret key. A restricted key limits what can be done with it and can be revoked on its own if it leaks.
</Warning>

## Options

### Embedded form

Off by default, so buyers are redirected to Stripe's own checkout page. Turning it on renders the payment form inside your checkout instead, which removes a redirect and works better inside a [checkout embed](/developers/embed) on your own site. Requires the publishable key.

### Currency conversion

Shows the price in the buyer's currency, taken from their IP address or from your storefront's currency selector. This also makes local payment methods available, since several of them only work in their home currency.

**Allowed Currencies** narrows which currencies conversion may use. Leave it empty to allow all of them, or restrict it if you only want to hold a few currencies in Stripe.

### Terms of service checkbox

Adds a terms checkbox to the Stripe checkout page, creating a record that the buyer accepted your terms at the time of payment, which is useful evidence in a dispute. Write the terms in the text box, or leave it empty and Stripe will use the terms URL from your [Stripe public settings](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/public).

### Billing address collection

Makes Stripe collect a billing address, which helps with fraud screening and tax records. This is Stripe's own collection and is separate from the SellAuth **Collect Billing Address** setting in [checkout settings](/guides/checkout#checkout).

### Automatic tax

Stripe calculates and charges tax based on the buyer's location.

<Warning>
  Stripe automatic tax runs independently of the SellAuth tax system, so enabling both charges the buyer tax twice. Use one and disable the other.
</Warning>

## Fees and limits

The [shared method settings](/guides/payment-methods#settings-shared-by-every-method) apply here as well. Stripe also supports **currency override**, which bills the invoice in a fixed currency of your choice rather than your shop currency. Use it when your Stripe account only settles in specific currencies, and use currency conversion when you want the buyer's currency to decide.

## Troubleshooting

**The method cannot be selected at checkout.** The order total is outside the minimum or maximum amount set on the method. Hovering the method at checkout gives the reason.

**The buyer sees Stripe's page instead of a form on yours.** The embedded form is off, or the publishable key is missing.

**Tax is charged twice.** Both Stripe automatic tax and SellAuth tax calculation are on. See above.

**A local method such as iDEAL never shows.** It must be enabled in your Stripe dashboard, the currency must match, and the buyer must be in a supported country.
