# Physical Products

> Sell merch, hardware and other shipped goods on SellAuth: shipping zones, rates and fulfilling an order once you ship it.

Physical products are sold like any other product, with two differences. Nothing is delivered automatically, and the buyer needs an address, which means shipping has to be configured before the product can be bought.

## Set up shipping zones first

A physical product cannot be purchased until at least one shipping zone exists. Zones are created under [**Shipping Zones**](https://dash.sellauth.com/shipping-zones).

A zone is a group of countries with one shipping rate.

| Field | Purpose |
| - | - |
| Zone name | Your label for it, such as Europe or Rest of World |
| Currency | The currency the rate is charged in |
| Price | Shipping cost added to the order total for buyers in this zone |
| Free shipping threshold | Order value above which shipping is free. Empty disables it |
| Countries | The countries this zone covers |

<Warning>
  A country can belong to only one zone. Buyers in a country you have not assigned to any zone cannot complete a physical order, so add a catch-all zone for everywhere you are willing to ship.
</Warning>

Set the rate to cover what posting costs you, including packaging. A rate set below cost acts as an unintended discount on every order in that zone.

## Create the product

Choose the **Physical** delivery type, or start from the Physical Product template.

Stock, price, variants and quantity limits work as they do for any other product. Variants are the natural place for sizes or colours, each with its own stock count.

The **Instructions** field is shown to the buyer once payment completes, so use it for shipping expectations, dispatch times and how you will send tracking.

<Note>
  Physical orders always collect a billing address, regardless of the **Collect Billing Address** setting in [checkout settings](/guides/checkout#checkout).
</Note>

## Fulfilling an invoice

A paid physical invoice stays open until you record what happened with it, from the invoice page.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Mark as Shipped">
    Available once the invoice is paid. You can add a tracking code and a tracking link, which the buyer sees on their checkout page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Mark as Delivered">
    Records that it arrived, and closes the invoice.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Add tracking at the shipped step where you have it. It answers the most common follow-up question in advance, and it is useful evidence if the buyer later disputes the charge.

## Chargebacks on physical invoices

Card networks weigh delivery evidence heavily for shipped goods. A tracking number showing delivery to the buyer's billing address is the strongest evidence available to you, which is reason enough to record tracking on every invoice. See [Refunds and Chargebacks](/guides/refunds).
