# SEO and Link Previews

> Control how your shop appears in search results and in links shared on Discord, Telegram and X, verify it with Google and Bing, and add your own head code.

How your shop shows up in Google and in a link pasted into Discord comes from two places:

* **SEO & Sharing** in your storefront settings, for the whole shop.
* **SEO & Sharing** in the visual editor sidebar, for individual pages.

Products, categories, blog posts and legal pages have their own SEO fields on their edit forms, each with a preview of how the page shows in Google, Discord and X.

## SEO & Sharing

Under [**Settings > SEO & Sharing**](https://dash.sellauth.com/shop#seo).

### Search appearance

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| Home page title | The title of your home page in search results and the browser tab. Falls back to your shop name |
| Description | The text under the title in search results and in link previews. Every page without its own description uses it. Falls back to your shop description |
| Social image | The image in link previews. Use 1200 × 630 pixels. Falls back to your logo |
| Link preview size | Large shows the image across the full width of the preview. Small puts a thumbnail beside the text |

Below the fields, a preview shows your home page the way Google, Discord and X display it. Search results show about 160 characters of the description, and link previews show up to 300.

The colored stripe beside a Discord preview comes from your theme: its accent color, or its background color on themes with a light and dark mode.

### Page titles

Page titles end with your shop name, for example `Products - Acme Keys`. Choose the separator that goes between them. The home page is the exception and uses its own title as it is.

Turn off **Add Shop Name to Page Titles** to use page titles alone. The shop name is also left out when a page title already contains it.

Link previews on Discord, Telegram and X use the page title without the shop name, because they already show your shop name above it.

### Search engines

**1. Add your shop to Google Search Console**

Add a **URL prefix** property with your shop address, for example `https://yourstore.com`. Use your custom domain if you have one.

**2. Copy the HTML tag**

Choose **HTML tag** as the verification method and copy the tag Google shows you.

**3. Paste it and save**

Paste it into **Google Search Console** under SEO & Sharing and save. The whole tag and the code inside `content="…"` both work.

**4. Verify and submit your sitemap**

Click **Verify** in Search Console. Once verified, submit the sitemap address shown under SEO & Sharing, for example `https://yourstore.com/sitemap.xml`.

Bing Webmaster Tools works the same way with its **HTML Meta Tag** option.

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| Discourage Search Engines from Indexing | Every page asks search engines not to list it, and robots.txt stops pointing to your sitemap. Pages that are already listed disappear over the following weeks. Link previews keep working |
| Redirect mysellauth.com to Custom Domain | Visitors, robots.txt and the sitemap on your `mysellauth.com` address move to your [custom domain](/guides/custom-domain) with a permanent redirect, so search engines see a single address. Keep it on unless your domain has problems |

### Custom code

**Head Code** is inserted before `</head>` and **Footer Code** before `</body>`, on every storefront page and in every theme. It stays when you update or switch themes. The visual editor preview leaves it out, so your own editing does not count as visits.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Code you add runs for every visitor to your storefront. Only paste code from sources you trust, and check your live shop after saving.

Custom code always runs, even when the [cookie consent banner](/guides/cookie-consent) is on. Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Meta Pixel are better added under [**Integrations**](https://dash.sellauth.com/shop#integrations), where they wait for the visitor's consent.

## Per-page settings

Open the **Visual Editor** and switch to the page. At the bottom of the sidebar, below the components, **SEO & Sharing** shows the page's title and description as they appear in search results. Click it to change them.

| Field | When left empty |
| - | - |
| Title | Custom pages use the page name. Other pages use their default title, such as "FAQ" |
| Description | Custom pages use your shop description. Other pages use their default description |
| Social image | Your shop's social image |
| Hide from search engines | Off. When on, the page asks search engines not to list it and is left out of your sitemap |

These settings are available on custom pages and on the Products, Reviews, Status, FAQ, Contact and Blog pages. Default titles and descriptions are translated into each visitor's language. Text you enter shows in every language.

Next to the fields, a preview shows the page the way Google, Discord and X display it, and updates as you type. Your changes are saved together with your other edits when you save the editor.

The home page uses the shop-wide settings above. Products, categories, blog posts and legal pages are set where you edit each one. See [Products](/guides/products) and [Legal Pages](/guides/legal-pages).

> [!NOTE]
>
> Per-page settings need an up-to-date official theme. If your theme shows an update under [**Themes**](https://dash.sellauth.com/theme), update it first. The settings are saved with the theme, so they are kept when you update it but not when you switch to a different theme.

## What search engines see

* The shopping cart and customer account pages are never indexed.
* Unlisted products open from their link, but ask search engines not to list them.
* Your sitemap at `/sitemap.xml` lists the home page, products, categories, published legal pages, blog posts and custom pages. Pages hidden from search engines are left out.
* Pages carry structured data that search engines read: your shop, its logo and social links on the home page, prices and stock on products, and the date and author on blog posts.
