# Storefront Basics

> Choose and apply a theme, set your shop identity and languages, and know which editor to use.

Your storefront is what buyers see: the shop page, product pages and checkout. Its appearance comes from a **theme**, and its content comes from your shop settings and products.

## Themes

Themes are managed under [**Themes**](https://dash.sellauth.com/themes). New shops run the default theme until you pick another.

| Source | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Official free themes** | Made by SellAuth, available on any plan |
| **Official premium themes** | Made by SellAuth. Some are a one-off purchase, others come with a particular plan |

Premium themes unlock in one of two ways, and the card tells you which. Ones with a price are bought once and stay available to your account afterwards, marked **Purchased**. Ones without a price are tied to a plan and unlock while your shop is on it, marked **Included**. Every premium theme has a **Demo** link, so you can see a live storefront running it before paying for anything.

Importing a theme adds it to your list. It does not go live until you **Apply** it, so you can import several and preview before committing.

Other actions on a theme: **Clone** it to experiment on a copy, **Rename** it, **Update** it to the latest published version, and **Delete** it.

Themes belong to the user account that imported them, shown in the **Owner** column as **You**, another member's email, or **System** for the defaults. Those actions are only available on your own themes. A team member with theme permissions can edit the theme your shop is running, but cannot swap it for another one. See [Teams and Permissions](/guides/teams-and-permissions#permissions).

## Keep your theme up to date

<Note>
  **Your theme version decides which storefront features your buyers get.** New storefront functionality ships inside the theme, so a shop running an old version is missing whatever arrived after it.

  That is why a feature can look enabled in your dashboard and be absent from your storefront. The customer account page and the affiliate section are the two that come up most, but it applies to anything added to the storefront.
</Note>

If buyers cannot find something you have switched on, check your theme version before anything else. **Update** on the theme brings it to the latest published version.

<Warning>
  Updating overwrites the theme's files with the latest version, apart from the ones you own: `settings.json`, `assets/custom.css`, `assets/custom.js`, `templates/custom-page.njk` and the `locales` folder. Those are preserved, and folders merge so newly shipped files still arrive.

  Any other file you edited is replaced. If you have changed the theme's code yourself, clone it or download your copy from the code editor before updating.
</Warning>

## Editing a theme

There are three editors.

**Visual editor** edits the storefront by clicking through a live preview. This suits most sellers.

**AI editor** takes instructions in chat and applies the changes to your theme.

**Code editor** edits the theme's Nunjucks templates directly, for full control over the markup. See [Themes Overview](/developers/themes) for how themes are structured and rendered.

## Shop identity

Under [**Settings > Identity**](https://dash.sellauth.com/shop#general):

| Setting | Where it shows |
| - | - |
| Logo and favicon | Your storefront and browser tabs |
| Description | Your shop page, depending on the theme |
| Meta title | Browser tab and search results. Falls back to your shop name |
| Meta description | Search results. Falls back to your shop description |
| Meta image | Link previews on Discord, X and other platforms. Falls back to your logo |
| Meta Twitter card | Whether shared links show a small or large image |

Set the meta image and card deliberately. Links to your shop are usually shared on Discord or X, where a link with no preview image attracts fewer clicks.

## Languages

Set these under [**Languages**](https://dash.sellauth.com/shop#languages). **Default language** is what your storefront renders in when a visitor has not chosen otherwise. **Additional languages** are the others a visitor can switch to.

Themes ship translations for the languages SellAuth supports. Your own content, meaning product names, descriptions and instructions, is not translated for you. See [Translations](/developers/translations).

## Legal pages

Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Refund Policy and four further page types (shipping, cookies, legal notice, right of withdrawal) are written under [**Legal Pages**](https://dash.sellauth.com/shop/legal) and linked from your storefront and checkout. The refund policy is the one processors ask for during a dispute. See [Legal Pages](/guides/legal-pages) for which pages your market expects and how to enable them.

## Social links and integrations

[**Socials**](https://dash.sellauth.com/shop#social) adds links to your Discord, YouTube, Telegram, TikTok and Instagram.

[**Integrations**](https://dash.sellauth.com/shop#integrations) connects Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel and the Crisp chat widget by pasting in the relevant ID. With the [cookie consent banner](/guides/cookie-consent) on, they only load after the visitor allows their category. See [Analytics](/guides/analytics) for the figures SellAuth reports on its own.
